Stuart Street Aged 44.
Married to Emma, and
father of three, Stuart is
a Police Constable in the
Cotswolds and has recently
trained as a Family Liaison
Officer (FLO)
Stuart Street’s
During his 19 year service
he has dealt with numerous sudden deaths and attented
many serious crashes. He became a Family Liaison
Officer after his experiences of investigating a fatal collision
while on attachment to the
Roads Policing Unit.
“It may seem strange, but
I get a lot of satisfaction
working with families who
have had a loved one die
in a crash. You start with
them at the lowest point in
their lives and are a small
part in helping them to come
to terms with their loss”
“I do what I can to raise awareness of road safety and save other families from the trauma of police officers coming knocking. The worst bit is the expression of recognition when they open the door and the emotions rise inside yourself “
“Receiving letters of thanks
from bereaved families isn’t
what it’s all about, but
when you read the
comments they write, it
makes you realise what
you have done, even when
it’s ‘just part of the job’’.
“I’ve had personal experience myself and it was really
difficult when Mike died.
I knew the Family Liaison Officer assigned to our family, and could appreciate the difficult job she had”
“
Mike’s crash had quite an effect on me, and on mum and dad in particular–we’ve always been a bike-mad family, but his death has come as such a shock
to them”.
