29.10.09 Gloucestershire County Council has received a certificate from ‘Driving for Better Business’, signed by Paul Clark MP, Parliamentary under Secretary of State, in recognition of GCC’s commitment to work related road safety and our role as a Business Champion.
Gloucestershire is only the 2nd Local Authority in the country to be awarded the status as a Business Champion.
The award recognises the steps that the council has taken to introduce policies and procedures to help protect its staff who drive as part of their duties.
The Road Safety Partnership works with local businesses to help them develop their own road risk policies.
It is estimated between 25% and 33% of road traffic collisions involve somebody who was using the road for work purposes. This means that in Great Britain between 800 and 1,056 people were killed or seriously injured in work-related road collisions.
