Chooze Zero 2017 drink and drug driving campaign
This year’s Chooze Zero drink and drug driving campaign has now ended and we’d like to thank all those involved in organising and running the campaign.
A special thanks to our Special Constabulary too for carrying out a number of roadside operations and helping enforce and educate drivers on the risks.
Between 1 December and 1 January there were a total of 57 arrests on suspicion of drink drive offences. 44 people have or will now be appearing at court charged with related offences.
There were a further 22 arrests of people on suspicion of drug driving offences, with many of these released under investigation pending the results of blood tests.
This year’s Christmas campaign may now be over but the key messages remain –
Remember to choose zero and avoid the gamble of guessing whether or not you are under the legal limit.
Here are some tips to help:
- If you’re using public transport check the times of the last train or bus as well as the location of your nearest station or stop
- Nominate a designated driver before you go out
- Stick to alcohol free drinks if you plan on driving home
- Make a note of local taxi companies or even better book ahead
