FAQ – Data
What is Road Accident Investigation and Prevention ?
Every year on Gloucestershire’s roads, there are more than 1000 personal injury road traffic accidents, resulting in approximately 1500 casualties.
The Road Safety Partnership maintains statistics on all personal injury road accident records within the county. Gloucestershire Constabulary provides this information to us. The data is analysed annually to investigate all aspects of road traffic accidents – to find out where, when and why an accident happened and to identify any road hot spots. This enables us to prioritise our annual programme of road safety education campaigns and target our spending on road improvements.
How do I find National Casualty Statistics ?
National collision and casualty statistics are published annually by the DfT. Please see the Department for Transport: Reported Road Casualty Statistics (PDF) (opens in a new window).
Would you like to receive Gloucestershire Collision Data ?
If you require collision data for a specific area, including plots and detailed reports please contact the team using the contact us form.
There is a £100 + VAT per collision location plot cost.
How up to date is collision data on the collision map?
The data within the collision map does contain data from 2014. However there is a delay in the collection and validation of the data from the police, so any recent collisions may not appear on the mapping until we have received the data and validated it.
What is the Cost of Collisions ?
For detailed information on the estimated financial costs of collisions and casualties, please see Department for Transport – A valuation of road accidents and casualties in Great Britain in 2011 (PDF, 55kb) (opens in a new window) .
What is the Strategic Framework for Road Safety?
The Government have recently released their DfT – Strategic Framework for Road Safety (opens in a new window) . The framework sets out the Governments’ approach to continuing to reduce killed and seriously injured casualties on Britain’s roads.
The focus is on increasing the range of educational options for the drivers who make genuine mistakes and can be helped to improve while improving enforcement against the most dangerous and deliberate offenders. Additionally, at the local level, the Government will be increasing the road safety information that is available to local citizens.
