Get the mocktails flowing and be the host with the most this Christmas
Gloucestershire’s Road Safety Partnership is urging residents to be responsible hosts over the festive season.
On 1st December the partnership began its winter anti drink drug drive campaign across Gloucestershire.
Residents preparing for their seasonal family gathering are asked not to forget the most important gift for their guests – an alternative to an alcoholic drink for anyone who’s driving.
It is easy to find great tasting alcohol-free cocktail recipes online that will make your driving guests feel extra special. Try these recipes:
¾ pint pineapple juice
½ pint orange juice
½ pint sparkling spring water
2 passion fruit
Chill fruit juices and spring water. Halve passion fruit
Scoop seeds into jug. Add juices and water
Mix well then serve in tall glasses with ice
1 part vanilla ice cream
2 parts apple juice
Freshly ground nutmeg
Whipped cream for topping
Put ice cream into a blender and blend a little
Add apple juice and a generous sprinkling of ground nutmeg
Blend until frothy
Top with whipped cream sprinkled with a little nutmeg
Cllr Will Windsor Clive, cabinet member for fire, planning and infrastructure at Gloucestershire County Council said, “Being a responsible host isn’t about avoiding your guests having a hang-over, it’s about keeping them safe and legal, and helping to protect everyone who shares the roads this Christmas.
“Remember that home poured measures are generally far larger than the standard measure you have in the pub. Often hosts don’t wish to be seen to be short changing their guests or acting like ‘Ebenezer Scrooge’ so, the host with the most this year will offer an alternative that’s free from alcohol.”
Throughout the month of December more than 700 people will be killed or injured on Britain’s roads because someone took the risk of drinking and then driving. Don’t let your guests be one of them.
This year the Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership is working with independent crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers. If you have any information about regular drink and/or drug drivers, you can call anonymously on 0800 555 111 or atwww.crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
